It Starts With Extremely Pure Water
Regular tap water contains minerals and other dissolved particles. When that water dries on glass, those minerals can remain behind and create the spots and streaks most of us have seen on windows.
For drone window cleaning, Crystal Clear Solutions uses Reverse Osmosis and Deionization, commonly called RO/DI, to purify the water before it ever reaches the glass.
This filtration process brings the water down to fewer than 10 parts per million of dissolved material. With virtually all of those minerals removed, the water can clean the glass without leaving the mineral residue that causes spotting.
You can think of ultra pure water as being "hungry" for dirt. Because so much has been removed from the water itself, it is very effective at picking up dirt, grime, and residue from the window surface. This allows the drone to clean without someone having to be put in sometimes a dangerous situation being so high up on the building being cleaned.
The Brush Handles the Heavier Buildup
Pure water does a lot of the work, but some debris still needs a little help.
The drone uses a brush to physically loosen dirt and anything that is too large or stubborn for the water alone to remove. This gives the system the combination of physical cleaning and purified water needed to handle buildup on exterior glass.
Once that debris has been loosened, the windows are thoroughly rinsed with RO/DI water. This allows them to be sparkling clean simply with the drone being the only equipment needed!
Why Doesn't the Water Leave Streaks?
This is the part that often surprises people.
Traditional window cleaning usually requires the remaining water to be removed from the glass because tap water contains minerals that can leave spots as it dries. RO/DI water has those minerals filtered out before the cleaning process begins.
That means the purified rinse water can dry naturally on the glass without leaving the same mineral residue behind.
The result is clean, clear glass without someone needing to physically squeegee every window several stories above the ground. This creates a win win situation, allowing clients to get beautifully clean windows while employees stay safely on the ground.
